Important Digital Conversion Information for Satellite and Cable TV Subscribers

As we inch closer and closer to the Digital TV Transition occurring on February 19, 2009, we start to see some of the less obvious points of the conversion come to light. Most information floating around out there states that if you subscribe to satellite TV or cable TV you won't be affected by the digital conversion in 2009. And that's true....for a majority of subscribers. What many educators of the Digital TV Transition don't realize is that not all satellite or cable equipment is created equal.

If you are in the majority of satellite or cable subscribers with a newer model receiver box, and are already receiving digital signals then you won't be affected by the transition. If you haven't updated your equipment in a long time, or know your box is only able to receive analog signals, then you will not be able to receive the digital signals after the digital transition. You will need to contact your television programming provider to find out how to upgrade your equipment.

Also, just because you are receiving digital signals does not mean you will be able to receive and view High Definition digital signals. Standard definition (SD) and High Definition (HD) signals are two different types of digital signals, and you need special equipment to view HD. There are a few things you need in order to view HD programming. First, you need an HD TV capable of displaying the High Def signals. Second, you will need to subscribe to an HD programming source such as from a satellite or cable provider. Third, you will need a receiver box capable of receiving HD signals. If HD local channels are available in your area, you may be able to pick them up if your HD TV has a built-in tuner, but you won't receive premium networks such as ESPN HD or Discovery HD without paying for HD programming.

If you're interested in upgrading to 100% digital programming or receiving High Definition channels

Dish Network still on target to expand HD channels

Dish Network still plans to continue with its HD expansion plans for 2008 despite the recent launch failure of the AMC-14 satellite. The satellite, launched this past Friday on March 14, was intended to be the first of three satellites launched this year in order to reach the intended mark of 100 HD channels and 100 HD local markets by the end of the year. The AMC-14 satellite ended up short of its planned orbit, but is said to be stable and functioning normally. A decision has not been made yet about what to do with the satellite. Despite this setback, Dish Network is confident they can remain on track with two more launches scheduled for this year.

Add HD channels for as little as $10 a month when you sign up for Dish Network from All American Dish. New customers can take advantage of a free HD DVR upgrade, free installation, and free activation. You pay $0 upfront and there are no hidden fees. Cable Rates on the Rise Again for Indianapolis, IN

Cable rates are rising again for Comcast subscribers in the Indianapolis,IN area. Customers can expect to see a 3.5% increase on their April bills. This is the second time since January Comcast has raised its rates in Indianapolis. The recent rate increase can be blamed on an increase in channels as well as an increase in the number of customer service workers. Most of these workers will be working directly with the customers, either over the phone or in their homes. Comcast has already notified the customers affected by the rate increase. Although Comcast recently took over Insight Communications locally, this takeover has not been cited as a reason for the increase.

Put a stop to cable rate increases and sign up for Dish Network satellite TV. New Dish Network customers can sign up to receive great deals such as free programming for 3 months and a free dvr upgrade. Plus, you pay $0 upfront and get free installation. Order Dish Network from All American Dish, and also receive a bonus gift. Put an end to high cable prices and visit www.AllAmericanDish.com or call 1-877-444-4388.

High Foreclosure Rate Leads to Rise In Cable TV Rates

The high foreclosure rate has hit our neighborhoods hard. If you're living next to an abandoned home left at a result of a foreclosure, then you know what a nuisance that is. Some neighborhoods have even experienced higher crime rates as a result. One thing often not mentioned, is the higher cable bills that come as a result of fewer residents.

What does your cable bill have to do with the decrease in the number of homeowners? The answer is a lot, specifically if you have a neighborhood association and were receiving a discount cable TV package through the them. Often times, neighborhood associations are able to negotiate bulk contracts with the cable companies for lower rates. The more residents, or customers, there are, the better the discount and the lower your bill is. What is happening now is there are less residents paying into the association as a result of the foreclosures, therefor reducing the discount, and raising your bill. In essence, the neighborhood associations have lost their "bulk," which is their most important negotiating factor. The higher costs are then passed onto you, the resident, especially if you reside in a less affluent neighborhood. Likely, if your neighborhood has other features covered by your homeowner's dues, such as golf courses, security services, etc, they can cut back in these areas instead and not pass the higher cable costs onto you.

If you have experienced an increase in your cable rates, you might want to consider another source for your television programming. Dish Network has a wide variety of package options to fit any budget. New subscribers can receive free installation and activation, free programming for 3 months, and a free DVR upgrade. Plus if you order Dish Network service through All American Dish, you will also receive your choice of an iPod Shuffle, a $50 Visa cash card, or a 7" digital picture frame. Comcast Cable Rates Rising in Illinois and Indiana

Comcast is greeting roughly 1.2 million new subscribers with a rate increase, and the best part is, there is no real explanation for the rate hike.

The rate increase is expected to take effect in April. The Standard package price is going from $48 to $51, the Basic package is increasing by $1, and the the Expanded Basic package is going up $2. Additionally, Premium movie channels, like HBO, are increasing by $1-$2, and the monthly DVR service fee is increasing from $8 to $10. The average bill is expected to increase 3.5%.

This past January, roughly half of Insight cable subscribers in Illinois and Indiana were passed over to Comcast. The rate increase affects Illinois customers primarily in Rockford/Dixon, Quincy/Macomb, Springfield, Peoria and Champaign/Urbana, and affects Indiana customers in Bloomington, Anderson, and Lafayette/Kokomo.

Dish Network has great programming packages at prices that beat digital cable, and are guaranteed not to change until February of 2009. Cox to raise cable rates for Santa Barbara/ University of California area

Cox cable TV subscribers residing in the Santa Barbara/ University of California area will need to brace themselves for yet another cable rate increase beginning March 15. Cox attributes the increase to higher programming costs, network upgrades, such as the addition of High Definition channels, as well as increases in operational costs. Approximately nine cable services will be affected by the increase including the Limited Basic package, which will increase from $26.64 to $29.14, and the Digital Basic package, which will increase from $62.24 to $68.74.

Students living in University-owned residences will likely not notice any changes because their television service is included in their residency fees. However, students living off-campus, like local residents, will see increases based upon the services they subscribe to.

If you are tired of cable rate increases then look into switching to Dish Network. Dish Network has packages guaranteed not to increase until February 2009. Currently, Dish Network is offering free activation and installation to new subscribers, as well as free programming for 3 months and a free HD DVR upgrade.
