Dish Network just announced the addition of HD locals in Grand Rapids, MI and HD local channels in Memphis, TN. This pushes the popular satellite provider even closer to their goal of 100 HD local markets by the end of 2008. The addition of these two new markets bring the satcaster's overall total up to 61 HD local markets, covering over 68% of TV households in the US. Consumer Reports Announces the Top DTV Converter Boxes

With the Digital Transition rapidly approaching, many electronics retailers are beginning to carry DTV converter boxes. Finding Amanda Sneak Preview Coming to Dish Network

Movie buffs will want to make sure to catch the sneak preview of "Finding Amanda" on Dish Network's Pay-per-view and On Demand services. The sneak preview will start June 13, 2008, two weeks prior to its theatrical release. This preview is part of a larger effort by Dish Network to offer an even wider variety of programming options, including movies available the same day as DVD releases and new movies prior to their theatrical release.

Finding Amanda will be available in standard definiton PPV from June 13-26 for just $9.99 and through DISH On Demand in standard def for just $10.99. "Finding Amanda" (rated R) is a comedy due to be released this summer and is written and directed by Rescue Me's Peter Tolan. The movie stars Matthew Broderick (Taylor Peters) as an ex-gambler who is married to Maura Tierney (Lorraine Peters). The couple sets out to resuce Taylor's niece Amanda (Brittany Snow), who is a prostitute in Las Vegas. Lorranine decides to leave Taylor after she suspects him of returning to gambling. Taylor decides to continue on rescuing his niece while fighting the urge to fall back in to gambling in an attempt to win back his wife.

Cable Rate Increases Looming for Subscribers All Over the U.S.

And we all thought food and gas prices were climbing... Cable customers across the country are bracing themselves again for more rate increases this year. Here's a rundown of which areas are affected:

Cambria County, PA - Cable subscribers should have noticed a 3-4 % rate hike in early June. Rising costs of gas, programming, and energy are blamed for the increases.

Las Cruces, NM - Cable subscribers likely noticed an increase of 7% on average on their June cable bills, depending upon the type of digital pacakge they subscribe to. Digital Premier customers are shelling out an additional $6.49 more a month for their services - yikes...

Norwood, MA - This area can expect to see a 5% increase on their monthly cable bills sometime in the coming weeks. The increase will cost customers an extra $3.15 per month on average.

Glasgow, KY - The rates will increase by $1.50 per month beginning in July. Basic subscribers will not be affected, but rather on next tier, which basically includes channels 29 through 100.

Tacoma, WA - Click! Network subscribers should expect an increase between 9 and 20 percent beginning in July, depending on location and their level of service. The average customer will see an increase of $2.75 per month on their cable bill.

Broward County, FL - Subscribers will see an average rate increase of about 2.5% on their monthly cable bill beginning July 1.

Omaha, NE - Cox cable subscribers will see a 6% increase on average on the July cable tv bills.

Tucson, AZ - Subscribers to Cox cable tv service will see increases from $2 to $5 beginning July 15.

Harrisburg, PA - RCN cable tv subscribers should expect to see an increase of at least $3 beginning in July.

Morganton, NC - Beginning on the October bills, rates for broadcast basic (channels 2 through 20) will raise from $15.95 to $18.95 per month. Basic cable (77 channels) will go from $40.95 to $45.95 per month. Now that you know, you should have plenty of time to shop around for cheaper TV service!

Catch the U.S. Golf Open Championships on Dish Network This Weekend

Dish Network Adds More New HD Channels


Dish Network added more new HD channels to their dishHD lineup this week. Earlier this week, the satcaster announced the addition of WGN HD, which was currently available only in standard-def.
