Cable Rate Increases for New Jersey, Massachusettes, North Carolina, Pennsylvania

Here is a list of recent and upcoming cable rate increases for 2008 so far.

Elizabeth City, NJ Cable Rate Increase -
Date of rate increase: 1/1/2008
Time Warner is increasing its cable rates effective the January billing cycle. The cost of basic service will remain the same. However, customers currently paying $41.60 per month will pay $44.25, and customers currently paying $49.85 will pay $52.50.

Charlotte, NC (Mecklenburg County) Cable Rate Increase -
Date of rate increase: 2/1/2008
Time Warner Cable is increasing its monthly rates for various tiers and packages. Basic is going up $11 from $10, standard cable is going to $51.95 from $49.95. Its three digital packages also increased.

Raleigh, NC Cable Rate Increase -Date of rate increase: Unknown
Time Warner customers will pay 3 to 5% more this year for cable.

Fayetteville, NC Cable Rate Increase -
Date of rate increase: 2/1/2008
Time Warner Cable is increasing its monthly rates. Basic cable rates will increase a little more than 3% from $9.65 to $9.95. The cost of combined basic and standard packages are rising more than 5% from $49.85 to $52.50. Digital subscribers can expect to see their monthly bills jump about 5% from $64.75 to $68.

Berlin, MA Cable Rate Increase -Date of rate increase: 3/1/2008
Charter Communications will raise its monthly rates. The increases will range from a few cents to up to $4, depending on the service. Basic cable will increase from $59 to $63. Charter's most expensive package, which includes premium movie channels, will increase from $81.99 to $85.99.

Philadelphia, PA Cable Rate Increase -Date of rate increase: Unknown
Comcast is raising rates an average of 3.8% this year - slightly more than last year. For subscribers to the expanded basic package in Pennsylvania, the rate increase is 4-5%. In Lower Bucks County, the expanded basic package will increase by 4.8%. In Delaware County, the expanded basic will rise 5%. In the Cherry Hill area, cable rates will increase $6.97 per month, or 14%, in part because the company folded its Value Pac into expanded basic cable. Some add-on services will also see changes - Digital Classic will jump 25%.

Philadelphia, PA Cable Rate Increase -Date of rate increase: 2/17/08
Verizon will raise the rate on its 200-channel FiOS TV Premier service 11.6%, or $5 per month. The company said it would not raise bills for those who have the service, or order the service before 2/17. The rate for Verizon's Spanish-language-focused La Conexion will increase 15% to $37.99 per month. About half the channels are in Spanish. Verizon is adding a $79.99 fee for service repairs and set-top box installation and retrieval, and the company will boost its rate for the Playboy Channel by $1.
