Digital TV Transition Is Approaching - Don't Forget Your Coupons

Your time is running out to apply for your $40 government coupons by the time the DTV Transition occurs in February. As of February 17, 2009, all high-powered broadcast stations will have to stop sending analog signals and switch over completely to digital signals. This includes your local channels with your favorite news and programming. After this deadline, you won't be able to view these channels if you don't have the proper equipment.

If you have a television in your home that is not hooked up to cable or satellite equipment, you will need to purchase a converter box. These can range from about $40 to $60 depending on the model. However, you can apply for up to two government coupons per household worth $40 each to put towards your converter box purchase. You will need to visit the official FCC website, www.dtv2009.gov, to apply for your coupons. After you receive your coupons, visit an electronics retailer, such as AllAmericanDirect.com, to purchase your converter box(es).

Comcast, Time Warner and Others Plan Cable Rate Increases for 2009

Cable TV subscribers across the country are facing cable rate increases beginning in the new year. The rate hikes could not come at a worse time for many consumers already feeling financial strain due to the tough economy, combined with the additional stress of recent holiday expenses. Some subscribers have had to cut back their programming, remove services, or get rid of cable altogether. It is also not uncommon for cable customers to switch to dish TV when cable rates go up. Overall, satellite TV programming, such as Dish Network, does not increase as high as cable over time and also offers some lower package prices. If it has been a while since you shopped around, you may want to see how much money you could save by switching to Dish Network.

Here is a summary of some of the areas affected by the upcoming rate increases:

New York - Time Warner plans to raise monthly cable rates at the beginning of the year, and is blaming the increases on higher programming and operating costs. The Triple Play Starter Pak will increase from $114.95 to $116.95 a month, and standard service will go up to $46.30 from $43.25 in most areas. Cablevision cable customers will also experience a rate increase of about 3.5% on average, while Comcast is expected to raise their rates approximately 3.7% for bundled services.

North Carolina - Time Warner plans to increase cable TV rates by $3 - $4 a month beginning in January. Standard cable will go from $53.45 to $56.66 a month, and basic digital cable TV will increase to $71.95 from $68.

Port Huron, MI - Comcast is set to raise rates an average of 4.3% a month for single service, while bundled customers will see a slightly lower increase at only 3%. Limited basic cable rates will raise from $14.99 to $15.99 a month, and standard basic programming will go up from $38.50 to $41. Existing Preferred Basic customers will see rates increase from $53.49 to $56.99 a month, and the digital tier add-on will increase from $14.95 to $17.95 per month.

Fort Wayne, IN - Comcast customers will experience higher rates for the Full Basic service, which will increase 1.4% from $52.99 to $53.75 per month. Limited service will increase about 24% from $14.49 to $17.99 per month. Expanded service will increase 14.3% from $31.27 to $35.76 per month. Since the remainder of Allen County has slightly different rates, these customers will face the following increases. Limited service will go up 21.4% from $13.99 to $16.99 per month, and Expanded service will raise 15.7% from $31.77 to $36.76 per month.

Philadelphia, PA - Cablevision plans to raise rates 3.5% for stand alone packages (non-bundled services).

St. Paul, MN / Twin Cities area - Comcast will raise rates an average of 2.9% in January and blames the increase on the rising costs of programming, especially in the interest of sports networks. Fortunately, Basic 1 cable will stay the same, however Standard cable which includes Basic 2, will go from $54 to $57.50 a month. They also plan to combine their old Classic and Preferred pricing tiers into one service, called Classic, for $74.50 a month.

Charleston, WV - Suddenlink plans to raise its monthly rates rates 3% beginning with the January 15 billing cycle. The increase is blamed on the rise in programming costs. Customers may also notice a broadcast surcharge on the bill. Basic service rates are not anticipated to rise.

Ohio - Time Warner plans to raise rates for basic cable, expanded cable and classic cable services starting in January. Charges for Basic service will go up from $16.08 a month to $17.37. Expanded cable rates will increase from $38.00 to $41.04 a month. Classic cable rates will go from $54.08 to $58.41 per month. Also, all Roadrunner high speed data services are planned to increase by $1.04, and equipment lease fees will increase slightly.

Central California / Modesto area - Comcast plans to raise rates an average of 4.5% depending on the type of services customers receive. In Modesto, Oakdale and unincorporated parts of Stanislaus County, Limited Basic subscribers will only see a 1% increase, raising the cost to $13.13 a month. However, Expanded Basic customers will experience a whopping 8% increase, with the monthly cost going up to $44.82.

Massachusetts - Charter Communications will be raising its cable TV rates 1-3% a month beginning in January. Charter already raised its rates earlier this year by 5-7%. On December 1, Comcast also raised its rates about 3.6% for the average customer, and they also hiked up rates by 4% in February of this year.

If you're interested in finding out how to put an end to your cable rate increases, contact All American Dish to see how much money you can save over the cost of digital cable. For the best satellite TV deal, call us at 1-877-444-4388 or visit online at www.AllAmericanDish.com.

Move over AT&T, Verizon Communications has now stepped up to become the largest U.S. wireless carrier with the acquisition of Alltel Wireless. The $28.1 billion dollar acquiring was approved Tuesday by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Now even more wireless subscribers residing in rural and small-market metro areas will have access to "America's most reliable" network, an already well-known feature of Verizon thanks to the popular "can you hear me now" commercials. This merger will bring Verizon's subscriber base up to approximately 80 million.

With the looming holiday shopping season approaching and the already high costs of fuel and groceries, the last thing any family needs is another cable rate increase. Yet that's just what Mediacomm cable TV subscribers in Iowa's Quad-City region and Kentucky will be looking forward to this November. So much for holiday spirit... The increases are blamed on the rising costs of doing business and the costs associated with the digital transition.

In Iowa, the Family Cable package is increasing by 7%, or up to $58.95 per month from $54.95. The Broadcast Basic package (channels 2-22) is expected to increase by $3, or up from $20.95 to $23.95 per month. The Expanded Basic package (through channel 78) will go up by $1.

For Kentucky Mediacomm subscribers, Family Cable service will increase to $57.95 a month.

Put an end to cable rate increases and switch to satellite TV. Suddenlink Communications to Raise Cable Rates in Alabama and Louisiana

Subscribers to Suddenlink cable TV services in Huntsville, Alabama are getting ready to face another cable rate increase this November. Limited basic service is slated to increase from $18.99 to $21.24. The increase has been blamed on higher costs of cable networks, fuel, equipment, insurance and more.

For Alexandria residents, Suddenlink Communications may be forced to raise rates mainly as a result of pass-thru charges such as pole usage charges and higher franchise fees dictated by the city. For instance, the customer's annual fee would increase from $1.78 to $13.92 per year due to higher pole usage charges. A final decision has not been made yet as to whether or not Suddenlink will have to raise its rates.

Wanting some relief from cable rate increases? On average, Dish Network satellite TV subscribers experience fewer rate increases than cable TV subscribers. Sign up now from All American Dish and receive $100 cash back as an exclusive bonus offer. You also pay nothing for equipment and installation. Give us a call today at 1-877-444-3474 and see how much money you can save when you switch from cable to satellite TV.

Standard cable will increase by $2.95 to become $48.95 a month. Digital cable with one extra tier of channels will raise by 55 cents, and Digital Deluxe service with three tiers will increase by $1.55. Also, most "on demand" movies will increase from $1.04 to $4.99.

Comcast Raising Cable TV Rates November 1

Comcast cable TV subscribers in many parts of the U.S. are preparing themselves for yet another rate increase on November 1. The company sites everything from the failing economy and higher gas prices to rising health care costs for their employees as the reasons behind the rate increases. Comcast continues to attempt to reassure their subscribers that the average rate of increase is well below the rate of inflation. Nice try, but I don't think anyone is feeling too warm and fuzzy over that news.

Here's a summary of a few of the areas that will get hit with the rate increases.

Cable Rate Increases for Tennessee -
Comcast plans to raise rates by 3.5% for cable tv customers. The standard cable TV rate and digital starter rate will each go from $52.50 to $55.75 per month, which amounts to a 6% increase.

Cable Rate Increases for Virginia, Delaware and Maryland regions -
Comcast will raise rates by an average of 3.7%. Standard service will increase by 6.4% with cost increasing from $55.45 to $59. Entry level digital package will increase to $59, up 4.5% from $56.45. Digital Classic will increase from $75.35 to $79.90, up 6%, but 18 more channels will be added. Limited Basic service will increase by $2 or 15.7 percent, to $14.75. Premium channels such as HBO and Cinemax will increase by $1.

Cable Rate Increases for Pennsylvania -
Standard cable rates are increasing from $54.30 a month to $58. Expanded Basic will go from $36.30 to $38.05 a month. Limited Basic will increase $1.95, from $18 to $19.95. Premium channels, except HBO, will increase by $1. Digital Classic will increase to $74.95 from $69.25. Digital Premier package will increase to $127.90 from the current price of $119.60. This is the third time since January 2007 that Comcast has raised its rates for this area.

Help With Your Converter Box

Currently, there is a lot of information out there right now regarding the Digital Transition occuring in February, and rightly so. Almost every media and grassroots opportunity has been targeted as a means by which to educate the public on the transition. There's a good chance that unless you live under a rock or have completely removed yourself from the influence of the media, you're aware it is taking place and know what you have to do. For many, that involves purchasing a digital converter box, but do you know what to do after you receive it?

This past Monday, on September 8 at noon, the town of Wilmington, North Carolina switched over to digital signals ahead of the February deadline. The small town was selected to test the effects of the switch and the readiness of the television viewers. What they found out was that few people knew what to do with the converter boxes after they received them. The result? The FCC was flooded with calls, and the town's firefighters were called to go door-to-door assisting residents, helping them get their boxes hooked up and even checked their smoke detectors. This is great for a small town, but what happens when large metropolitan areas such as Los Angeles or Chicago convert? Something tells me the firefighter plan won't work in these areas.

To help you out, we've posted the basic converter box installation instructions on AllAmericanDirect.com. There are only four steps and they are incredibly easy, even for the electronically challenged. Click here to view all the steps.

If you still haven't purchased your converter box yet, you can find those too on AllAmericanDirect.com and even use your government coupons to buy online. Don't wait too long and miss out on your favorite shows! Visit us online today and find everything you need to be prepared for the digital transition.

Washington Cable Rates to Increase October 1

Cable rates are set to raise beginning October 1, 2008 for the residents of Washington. The rate hike will affect all of state with the exception of the Vancouver area. Comcast plans to raise rates an average of 3.7% with limited basic service increasing 75 cents a month, and basic service increasing $3.50 a month. Premium services will also go up 3.7%, although the actual price increase will vary depending on the package.

Comcast to Raise Cable Rates in the Bay Area

As if it isn't expensive enough to live in the Bay Area, Comcast will be raising rates again October 1, 2008. Cable customers will see hike of 6.9% or 12 cents a day, and only affects customers subscribing to standard cable service. AllAmericanDirect.com Has Everything You Need for the Digital Transition

Like many of us, you're probably still planning to hang on to at least one old, trustworthy analog TV in your home even after the analog to digital transition occurs in February 2009. Hopefully, you've also planned on how you're going to get it to display digital signals. It's not going to do this on its own, so you're going to need to give it some help. Don't know what I'm talking about? Don't worry - you have a some time left to get prepared.

Simply put, after the transition occurs, none of your analog televisions will be able to receive free, over-the-air TV signals. This means your bunny ears will not work. Period. This goes for all your analog TVs including, portable TVs, that old TV in the spare bedroom, and the little TV you keep in the kitchen just for local news and programming. The good news is you have 3 different options to choose from when preparing for the transition, and you don't have to waste gas driving all over town to find what you need. AllAmericanDirect.com has them all in one place, online, so you don't even have to change out of your pajamas and bunny slippers.

Here are your options:
1. Purchase a digital converter box - A converter box is a very simple, small device that has the power to accept the digital broadcast signals and converter them to analog signals, which your TV is able to understand and display. These boxes sell full price for about $60, but you can apply for up to two government coupons worth $40 each to put towards the cost of the box(es). To apply for the coupons, simply visit www.dtv2009.gov. Once you get your coupon codes, you may purchase them online or over the phone at AllAmericanDirect.com.

2.Upgrade Your Antenna - Ok, this one really isn't an option all by itself, but I thought it was worth mentioning if you enjoy watching your favorite shows with good reception. If you use an antenna or bunny ears at all, you still need that converter box I mentioned in number 1. However, just like with your analog signals, an antenna will help improve the quality of signal reception. On AllAmericanDirect.com, you can find the right TV antenna for your home and order online.

3. Subscribe to Pay-TV Service - Pay TV includes services like digital cable TV or satellite TV. If you subscribe to either of these, you won't need a converter box. Until recently, this option may have seemed out of reach for many due to the cost of the available programming packages. However, Dish Network just released a package for just $9.99 a month that includes 20 all-digital channels. This is a great, low-priced alternative if you're not ready to endulge yourself in the dozens or even hundreds of channels available in higher tier packages. Click here to check out the different packages and pricing options for Dish Network TV.

4. Update Your TV - I know it brings tears to the eyes, but you could chuck that old analog TV and replace it with a sleek new digital television. Newer models feature an integrated digital tuner, so they don't need a separate box to receive over-the-air digital signals. Plus, if you opt for a High Definition television and your local stations broadcast in HD, then you'll get to see those too. There are many other benefits to upgrading now as well, for instance, flat panel TVs take up less space and run far more effeciently than your current CRT unit. Take a look around on AllAmericanDirect.com and browse our full line of name brand HDTVs. You're sure to find one you like.

Dish Network Second Satellite Launch Successful

Yesterday morning, Dish Network successfully launched their second satellite of the year. Their first satellite launch earlier this year failed to reach its proper orbit, which made this second release critically important to the future success of their HD programming capabilities. A third satellite launch is scheduled for later this year.

This has not been possible with any other programming provider before.

More information will come available in the coming weeks regarding the release of TurboHD. Below is a breakdown of the different tiers and their prices.

Court Ruled NPS Allowed to Provide Distant Network Programming

Official Press Release -

National Programming Service’s Right to Sell Distant Network Programming
Upheld by Federal Court of Appeals

INDIANAPOLIS – In a unanimous opinion issued today, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals upheld Indianapolis-based National Programming Service (NPS), LLC’s right to lease satellite equipment from EchoStar Communications Corporation (EchoStar) and retransmit distant network programming under the Satellite Home Viewer’s Act (SHVA).

The SHVA permits satellite carriers, such as NPS, a compulsory, statutory license to engage in secondary transmissions (or retransmissions) of copyrighted distant network programming to so-called “unserved households”—households that are unable to receive network programming at a specified level of intensity through the use of conventional rooftop antennas.

“We are extraordinarily pleased with the ruling,” said Michael Mountford, chief executive officer of NPS. “We believe the Court’s opinion vindicates our legitimate right to engage in the secondary transmission market.”

NPS has 104 employees and retransmits distant networking programming to over 110,000 unserved households nationwide.

This case dates back to the 1990s when EchoStar began providing satellite television programming to subscribers under the DISH NETWORK brand. In 1998, various television networks including—CBS, ABC, Fox and NBC—and their network affiliates, sued EchoStar in Florida federal court claiming the company was improperly providing distant network programming to served—as opposed to unserved—households. Eventually, an injunction was entered in 2006 that prevented EchoStar from providing distant network programming under the SHVA’s statutory license.

“There are public policy implications in today’s ruling,” explains Todd Vare, a partner in Barnes & Thornburg LLP’s Intellectual Property Department, who argued on behalf of NPS. “If the court had ruled against NPS, the only distant network programming option for unserved households would have been DirecTV, thus creating a monopoly in this industry sector,” added Vare.

NPS, an Indianapolis company that has been in the business of providing satellite services through C-band satellites since 1983, approached EchoStar in 2006 to inquire about leasing its satellite equipment. A deal was reached, which enabled NPS to use EchoStar’s satellite transponder to retransmit distant network programming to unserved households who signed up with NPS.

The networks then accused NPS of violating the previously entered injunction against EchoStar. The Florida federal court sided with NPS, and the networks appealed. The Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals also sided with NPS.

NPS is privately owned by Mike Mountford and Jon Pardieck. It does business under the trade name All American Direct.com. In addition to the satellite businesses All American Direct.com is an e-commerce retailer offering a wide variety of consumer products including TV’s, Cell phones, Internet and related products.

Cable Rate Increases for Louisiana and New York

Consumers in Louisiana and New York already battling with high gas and food prices will also see an cable rate increases on their April bills.

Louisiana Cox Cable Rate Increase:
Cox Communications’ raised rates for their cable TV and Internet services beginning in April. The increases are said to be due to higher programming costs. Cable rates increased by $3 for approximately 40 percent of Cox subscribers. The remaining 60 percent of customers experienced rate increases anywhere between $3 and $9.12, depending upon the types of services they subscribe to.

Areas affected by the Cox cable rate increase are East and West Baton Rouge, Ascension, Livingston, Lafayette, East Feliciana, Acadia, Iberia, Iberville, St. James, St. Martin, St. Mary and Vermilion

New York Time Warner Cable Rate Increase:
Time Warner Cable increased its monthly standard cable rates from $55.43 to $58.20 for April. This is the second rate increase in two years, and is said to be due to increases in programming costs, as well as higher gas and energy costs.

Important Digital Conversion Information for Satellite and Cable TV Subscribers

As we inch closer and closer to the Digital TV Transition occurring on February 19, 2009, we start to see some of the less obvious points of the conversion come to light. Most information floating around out there states that if you subscribe to satellite TV or cable TV you won't be affected by the digital conversion in 2009. And that's true....for a majority of subscribers. What many educators of the Digital TV Transition don't realize is that not all satellite or cable equipment is created equal.

If you are in the majority of satellite or cable subscribers with a newer model receiver box, and are already receiving digital signals then you won't be affected by the transition. If you haven't updated your equipment in a long time, or know your box is only able to receive analog signals, then you will not be able to receive the digital signals after the digital transition. You will need to contact your television programming provider to find out how to upgrade your equipment.

Also, just because you are receiving digital signals does not mean you will be able to receive and view High Definition digital signals. Standard definition (SD) and High Definition (HD) signals are two different types of digital signals, and you need special equipment to view HD. There are a few things you need in order to view HD programming. First, you need an HD TV capable of displaying the High Def signals. Second, you will need to subscribe to an HD programming source such as from a satellite or cable provider. Third, you will need a receiver box capable of receiving HD signals. If HD local channels are available in your area, you may be able to pick them up if your HD TV has a built-in tuner, but you won't receive premium networks such as ESPN HD or Discovery HD without paying for HD programming.

If you're interested in upgrading to 100% digital programming or receiving High Definition channels
