Suddenlink Communications to Raise Cable Rates in Alabama and Louisiana

Subscribers to Suddenlink cable TV services in Huntsville, Alabama are getting ready to face another cable rate increase this November. Limited basic service is slated to increase from $18.99 to $21.24. The increase has been blamed on higher costs of cable networks, fuel, equipment, insurance and more.

For Alexandria residents, Suddenlink Communications may be forced to raise rates mainly as a result of pass-thru charges such as pole usage charges and higher franchise fees dictated by the city. For instance, the customer's annual fee would increase from $1.78 to $13.92 per year due to higher pole usage charges. A final decision has not been made yet as to whether or not Suddenlink will have to raise its rates.

Comcast Raising Cable TV Rates November 1

Comcast cable TV subscribers in many parts of the U.S. are preparing themselves for yet another rate increase on November 1. The company sites everything from the failing economy and higher gas prices to rising health care costs for their employees as the reasons behind the rate increases. Comcast continues to attempt to reassure their subscribers that the average rate of increase is well below the rate of inflation. Nice try, but I don't think anyone is feeling too warm and fuzzy over that news.

Here's a summary of a few of the areas that will get hit with the rate increases.

Cable Rate Increases for Tennessee -
Comcast plans to raise rates by 3.5% for cable tv customers. The standard cable TV rate and digital starter rate will each go from $52.50 to $55.75 per month, which amounts to a 6% increase.

Cable Rate Increases for Virginia, Delaware and Maryland regions -
Comcast will raise rates by an average of 3.7%. Standard service will increase by 6.4% with cost increasing from $55.45 to $59. Entry level digital package will increase to $59, up 4.5% from $56.45. Digital Classic will increase from $75.35 to $79.90, up 6%, but 18 more channels will be added. Limited Basic service will increase by $2 or 15.7 percent, to $14.75. Premium channels such as HBO and Cinemax will increase by $1.

Cable Rate Increases for Pennsylvania -
Standard cable rates are increasing from $54.30 a month to $58. Expanded Basic will go from $36.30 to $38.05 a month. Limited Basic will increase $1.95, from $18 to $19.95. Premium channels, except HBO, will increase by $1. Digital Classic will increase to $74.95 from $69.25. Digital Premier package will increase to $127.90 from the current price of $119.60.
